The Tour Championship in the game of golf is considered to be the grand finale event of the year and has been historically titled as the final event of the golf’s PGA tour season. Since 2007 this Tour Championship has started to act as a climax for the FedEx Cup results, which means that the FedEx Cup is also awarded to its winner on this Championship Tour.
The 30 golfers who qualify for the Tour Championship are those who are on top of the FedEx Cup playoff points list. The Tour Championship, which started back in 1997, has East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta, Georgia, as its home. This year in 2008 the tournament will be held again in its home course and would be aired internationally by the Golf Channel or CBS.

After the 2007 Tour Championship, Tiger Woods would be coming back as the title defender. That was a lucky year for Woods as he not only won the Tour Championship but he was also crowned the FedEx Cup. After rounds of 64, 63, 64 and 66, Tiger Woods was able to get a total of 257, and the second position belonged to Zach Johnson and Mark Calcavecchia. In 2005, on this same East Lake golf course, Bart Bryant made a record of overall 263 and 62 for a single round. However, an overall 18 hole record, belongs to Zach Johnson of 60, scored last year. Up till now there have been seven Tour Championships and they have been won by seven different players.
This year the event, which would be presented by Coca Cola in Atlanta, Georgia, will have a purse of $7 million and a winning share of $1,260,000. The tournament will take place in its home, Atlanta, from 22nd Sept to 28th Sept. This year the highest number of events has been won by Kenny Perry and Vijay Singh that is three. The winner, along with the title, will be getting prize money of $ 10 Million, second will get $3 Million, third will be given $2 Million, fourth will have $1.5 Million and fifth will get $1 Million.
