Two legendary Quarterbacks in Kurt Warner and Brett Farve, who have both won their fair share of Super Bowl rings and MVP honors but yet never really became rivals will have a go at each other when the Cardinals visit the Jets on Sunday. This Sunday’s meeting between Favre’s New York Jets and Warner’s Arizona Cardinals will be only the second time during a regular season schedule that the veterans lead their respective teams as starters, as men both try to help their teams rebound from road losses.

Warner has recaptured some of his old form during the Cardinals’ 2-1 start and Brett Favre has been somewhat disappointing as the Jets have fallen to 1-2 under his leadership. In the game on Monday night, Favre’s two interceptions were returned for touchdowns in New York’s 48-29 loss at San Diego on Monday night and managed to roll his ankle in the third quarter and missed some action in the latter part of the game. Late in the week, Favre is expected to play and be at 100%, but they all say that. Only time will tell.

When the Cardinals have the ball, Kurt Warner has had some success this year and overall his teams are 31-3 when he throws at least 15 passes and reaches triple-digits in passer rating. Cardinal’s veteran running back, Edgerrin James, has had his way in recent outings, reaching 100 yards four times in six games with the Colts and winning five times. He’s gone for 262 yards and five touchdowns in the last two matchups alone. When he goes for 120 yards and scores at least once, his teams are 18-0.
In a surprise for the Cardinals, fifth-round pick Tim Hightower has scored two touchdowns in three games this season and Anquan Boldin has all four of his scores in the past two games. Boldin went for 140 yards and three touchdowns against Miami in Week 2, while teammate Larry Fitzgerald has 24 catches for 366 yards and a score in his last three against the AFC.
There has been a lot of talk about this matchup and if Brett Favre has a 300+ passing yard game, they have a chance of keeping this close. The Jets defense needs to pressure Kurt Warner. If they sack him at least twice and force 1 or more turnovers the Jets winning percentage goes way up.
Overall, the Jets have to hope Brett Favre does not throw multiple interceptions. If he does the Cardinals should win by an average of 5 points.
