With all of the Atlanta Falcons troubles last year with the Michael Vick situation and the loss of their Head Coach leaving for the college ranks, Atlanta seems to be rebounding this year. Everybody loves a comeback story, well at least quarterback Matt Ryan seems to be making a splash leading his team to a 2-1 record this season.
This week they have a team that many are looking at as possible Super Bowl contenders in the Carolina Panthers, even though the Carolina Panthers were hoping the long-awaited reunion of Jake Delhomme and Steve Smith would boost. Their sagging offense a boost. It never did. Carolina suffered their first loss of the season. After accumulating 604 yards in winning its first two games of the year, Carolina (2-1) had just 204 in last Sunday’s 20-10 loss to Minnesota, which gave cause for concern to the entire coaching staff. Delhomme and Smith are both hoping their rhythm returns when the Panthers return home Sunday to meet the surprising Atlanta Falcons.
Atlanta is halfway to its win total from just a year ago, but both of those victories have come at home against teams that have not been stellar, the Chiefs and Lions.
After a hard loss against Tampa Bay on Sept. 14, the Falcons jumped out to a 24-0 second-quarter lead en route to a 38-14 victory over Kansas City last Sunday, giving them the edge when it comes to momentum.

Michael Turner rushed for 104 yards and had the first three-touchdown game of his career against the Chiefs. After spending four years in San Diego backing up LaDainian Tomlinson, Turner is thriving as a lead back. He set a Falcons record with 220 yards rushing in their season-opening 34-21 win over Detroit, and has 366 yards and five touchdowns on the season.
The Falcons have seemed to established their running game using Kansas City as their confidence booster giving Ryan the chance to get comfortable. He finished 12-for-18 for 192 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. When Turner was limited to 42 yards on 14 attempts against the Buccaneers, though, Ryan also struggled.
On the road, Ryan is 21-for-31 for 353 yards and two touchdowns in his two home wins, but was just 13-for-33 for 158 yards and two interceptions in the road loss.
The road team, however, has won the last five games in this series.
