The Dallas Cowboys lead the pack for the third consecutive week, but suddenly they’re crowded by familiar foes. After the Beijing Olympics held this year with a splendid arrangement, another sporting event is coming up in the Chinese capital city of Beijing. The 2008 China Open, which was initially called the Beijing Salem Open, is the international tennis tournament held in China since its inception in 1993, the year when ATP introduced two other Asian Tennis Championships titled as the Qatar Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships. The tournament was held yearly until 1998, when it got removed from the tour calendar. It restarted in 2004 and the following year it was also included in the WTA tour.

This year the tournament will be played on a “Hard” surface in Beijing and will be held from 22nd September to 28th September. The prize money for this tournament in ATP tier would be $500,000 and for WTA tier it would be $600,000. Fernando Gonzales would be the defending champion for the Men’s Singles whereas Rik De Vost and Ashley Fisher were the Men’s double champions last year. Agnes Szavay will be the defending champion for Women’s Singles, whereas Chuang Chia Jung and Hsieh Su wei would be the former champions for Women’s Doubles.

ATP 2008 China Open will be welcoming a huge star cast of Women including the four famous players in Women’s Single, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankvoic, Kuznetsova and Dinara Safina. Among these, Ana Ivanovic would be the only one who will hit the ball for the first time on the Chinese surface. On the contrary Jelena Jankvoic would be quite a familiar face for Chinese audience, as she has been there in China Open in 2006 and 2007. The former champions of China Open in the Men’s league, Andy Roddick, David Ferrer and Fernando Gonzales will also be attending the tournament this year in Beijing.
The tournament has officially kicked off in the Beijing Tennis Center in the splendid way. Looks like Beijing knows how to start up sport events in a spectacular way no matter what game it is. Consecutively this is the fifth year when China open would be held in this arena. This year the tournament will be a star studded show in form of the 124 scheduled matches. May it be Men or Women, both sides will have best of the players competing for the titles. After the Beijing Olympics, this will be the next big show this year hosted by Beijing.

The Tour Championship in the game of golf is considered to be the grand finale event of the year and has been historically titled as the final event of the golf’s PGA tour season. Since 2007 this Tour Championship has started to act as a climax for the FedEx Cup results, which means that the FedEx Cup is also awarded to its winner on this Championship Tour.
