Since 2003 Asian Tennis has seen another huge yearly event, after the 2008 China Open, here comes the Tennis Thailand Open 2008. Though not part of the WTA series, it has still managed to become an international tournament by becoming part of the ATP tour. This year, when there is a China Open going on already, 2008 Thailand Open has started in the 3rd week of September again, that is from 22nd September to 28th September. The event will be held in Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand and the prize money this year would be $550,000. Last year Men’s double was won by Sonchat Ratiwana and Sanchai Ratiwatana, whereas this year Men’s single title would be defended by last year’s champion Dmitry Turnsunov, winning his third ATP title.
Though this tournament does not look as spectacular as the China Open in Beijing but still Thailand have done their best to promote this event and inaugurate it at their best in the Impact Arena, Bangkok. Thailand Open kicked off in a splendid way at Muang Thong Thani’s Impact Arena’s court on a hard surface, with the first match between the Thai star Danai Udomchoke and French Nicolas Mahut. Danai, who has been in Thailand Open for the sixth time, has reached the second round for the last two years, whereas Mahut, who took part last year, reached the quarter finals and was beaten up by the Spanish Fernando Verdasco.

Though the tournament has just started but the four star players, Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Tomas Byrdich and Gael Monfills will lead to the first round automatically as they have received the first round byes already. Besides these star players, another maestro taking part in the tournament would be Russian Marat Safin.
Thailand Open is a huge event for tennis lovers; especially in Thailand and the ticket sales are blazing may it be the arena counters or online portals. The official hotel for the tournament has almost got all rooms booked for the duration of the event.
